Laziness Let’s define “laziness” anew—to endure a non-ideal existence, to let circumstance or others decide life for you, or to amass a fortune while passing through life like a spectator from an office window. (Tim Ferriss)

Ambition There’s lots of “more” we can seek without causing harm. More tranquility, more time, more learning..I got a powerful ambition to know more, to be a better father, to be more socially skilled, to spend more time in nature (George Monbiot)

Not having time Next time that you are too busy for something that you feel is important on the long term, stop saying “I’d like to, but I have no time” and use the accurate expression instead: “I chose to prioritize other things”. Everyone has the same number of hours in a week - 168.

On wasting time How would your outlook change if you used the correct expression “wasting life” both when you refer to yourself and to others?

Wealth Wealth is defined today as having a lot of money and being able to buy all the things that are supposed to make us happy. But this is just an illusion. I think we should define our wealth based on how much “free” time we have. Time that we can use to contribute to society, do meaningful things, cultivate our passions. We are all created equal and we all have 86400 seconds per day and not even 1 of them can be saved and transferred to the next day.

When you buy something the instrument is money, but in reality you are buying it with the hours of your life you spent earning that money. The greatest thing that you have is that you are alive (Jose Mujica)

Indifference

We need to move towards a more explicit definition of indifference. If I know something which is not in line with my values, it is my responsibility to get more informed about it and then to take a conscious decision to do something or not.  If I don't take action on something, then I cannot say I am not indifferent to it!

There are 3 scenarios:

I have heard about the problem and...

  • didn't take the time to get more informed about it (I am indifferent)
  • got informed about it and decided to do nothing because I think the problem is not a problem --> I have a positive opinion on the issue
  • got informed and decided to do nothing, despite considering the problem a problem. Regardless of the specific reason for my decision, I am to be considered indifferent to the issue. Even if I am concerned but  conclude I cannot really to anything about it because it's out of my sphere of influence or in contrast with some of my other values, the truth is that the net result of my though process is deproritization of the issue (which is a form of indifference)
  • got informed and took action to change things (I am a leader of change)

"if you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor" D.Tutu
