Came across the material from the "common cause foundation" (http://valuesandframes.org/) and must admit I found it thrilling. Don't know... as a hard scientist I feel I should feel a healthy disdain for social science, but I must admit I have a weakness for discussions about "values".
Schwarzes's value map (which classifies in different groups the key values important to people) somehow rings true and it feels relieving to see some order put into to all the pulsions I experience when trying to understand what really drives my (..our) crazy mind (s)...
That little voice inside that I cannot fully explain but calls me to do what's right...can now be captured under the name of "Universalism"...I am now a proud member of the upper right quadrant!
PS: Funny to see the value "Clean" in the lower quadrant. Just yesterday I was talking to someone on how the climate movement is not so advanced in Italy (people are miles behind in Italy when we talk about environmental responsibility...) and now I seem to have a clue on the explanation: the widespread culture of excessive cleaningness in our country! Just as pre-existing values drive behaviour, imposed behaviours create values, in what becomes a self reinforcing spiral...
