Re-defining yourself in such a highly complex world requires strong foundations. I have crystallized my identity into a 100 words bio and summarized my aspirations into a “web-of-goals”.

The 100 word limit on the biography forces you to focus only on the essential traits of your personality and is short enough not to bore anyone.

The “web of goals” technique, presented in the book Early Retirement extreme (J.Lund Fischer), is a very powerful way of focusing on personal development goals with the best chance to succeed regardless of external circumstances. An important feature that I added to my web-of goals is an artistic component (drawings and colors) which helps making it feel more unique (taking inspiration from Tony Buzan’s mind mapping guidelines).

100 words bio

I am a “radical ecologist in transition”

“Radical”:  I wanna contribute to this world by writing new paradigms, rather than focusing on incremental changes.

“Ecologist”: my priority is preserving the world’s ecosystems, which include man amongst, but not above, other beings.

“In transition”: I am still in the process of aligning my life to my beliefs.  I have a plan to move out of my conventional job and live in a way I can feel my own. My interests are self-reliance and simple living. My dream is participating in a community of like-minded people, acting as a catalyst for change.

Web of goals

My ultimate goal is happiness, which I believe I can achieved by expressing my individuality and being the one who creates meaning both in my inner and outer worlds. The 4 modules upon which my web of goals is built are:

  • Freedom / self- reliance ….from the rat race, from the constraints imposed by a society based on the absurd paradigm of growth
  • Personal realization by pursuing higher goals (in particular environmental goals and the pursuit of beauty)
  • Friendship and love….as having an intrinsic value in itself
  • Physiology…I believe that health, physical activity and peace of mind are necessary for happiness

Some interesting concepts related to the web of goals strategy:

  • Homeotelic response: goals that reinforce each other, that move in the same direction.
  • Tensegrity: if a goal isn’t met, there are other that make up for it …and pull your life in a slightly different direction
  • Process- oriented structure: primarily aimed at living, with goals being accomplished as side effects (whereas a goal-oriented strategy is aimed at goals, with living as a side effect).
